Well, Would Ya Look At That!

Hey There!

We're now about a month into the year 2013, and so far I'd say it's going pretty well, wouldn't you? Some pretty exciting things are happening with the Davis & Blevins Gallery in the coming month of February. Take a look below to get a bit of an idea!

The Scottsdale Artists' School is holding many workshops in the coming month, and Donna Howell-Sickles will be teaching one of them!  Donna will be holding a weekend workshop on drawing the female figure on February 22-24. If you find yourself in the area the last weekend of February, I encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn from the best! All levels are welcome, though some drawing experience is encouraged.

Back to the beginning of the month: This Friday, February 1st, Donna is having a show at the National Ranching Heritage Center on the Texas Tech campus. This show is unique in that it is a retrospective look at Donna's career thus far. A whopping 40 years of art will be covered, though not every single piece will be shown (can you imagine how many walls that place would need?!), it is sure to be a really great look into the lifework thus far of Donna Howell-Sickles. She'll be giving a talk on Friday at 7 pm and the show begins the next day. I hope you will all attend this rare and exciting event! To hold you over until then, here are a few samples of Donna's works.

"Like a Moth To a Flame"

 "Right On Target"

"Postcard Cowgirl" (one of her earlier works)

This postcard was an early source of inspiration for Donna

So, make sure you clear your schedules for the first and last weekends of February, folks! Have a great week!

Until Next Time,

The Davis & Blevins Gallery Team

A Furniture Fascination!

Hello everyone!

We hope you are all having a wonderfully sunny Sunday! As some of you may have learned from our recent Facebook posts and newsletter emails, the Davis & Blevins Gallery has recently acquired some wonderful furniture pieces from the very talented Doug Ricketts. Each one of these pieces has inspired in me a deep loathing of the utter lack of floorspace in my tiny apartment, so, alas, I find myself beholden upon all of you to remove these temptations from my sight! Two pieces in particular have caught my jealous eye:

This piece seems to be so versatile in my mind. It could serve as a buffet in your dining room, the entertainment center in your living room, or as the perfect table in your entryway. So many beautiful options!
Dreyfoos Entertainment Console
Doug Ricketts
Wood, blackened steel, milk pain, salvaged security glass, hay dump-rake pick up rods and hardware
30 1/4" h x 72" w x 22 1/2" d
$4,200

Maybe it's just me, but isn't this piece screaming for an old fashioned telephone? While I see this as the perfect telephone table, it could also serve as a great place to put on your shoes before you head out the door.
Caprock Canyon Bench II
Doug Ricketts
Red Oak, steel, Baltic birch plywood
27 1/4" h x 37 1/2" w x 16" d
$1,850

Please make sure you come by soon to see these, and other, excellent pieces by Doug Ricketts!

Until Next Time,

The Davis & Blevins Gallery Team

Hello, 2013!

Hello!

We hope y'all had fun ringing in the New Year! So far, 2013 has been pretty spectacular for us here at the Davis & Blevins Gallery, and we look forward to the many exciting months to come.  Just a couple reminders/announcements for you today:

If you have not been by to see all of Donna Howell-Sickles' new works on display for her show, you really should make the trek! She's got wonderful pieces that appeal to just about everyone who sees them! Right now I'm really liking "Like A Moth To A Flame" because it appears as if the fruit is coming right at you (not to mention the dog holding what could possibly be a stick of lit dynamite)! Make sure you head on over soon before they all disappear!

"Like A Moth To A Flame"
Mixed Media on Paper
40"x60"
$9600

For those of you who have seen the construction or heard some rumors, I am happy to inform you that Donna and John are close to completing a new gallery and studio space right next door to Davis & Blevins!"The Frie Building," as the space is locally known, was separated and sold as two spaces years ago. Now, thanks to John and Donna's vision, the Frie Building is whole once more!

I'd love to tell you more about this historic building, but unfortunately, I have not been able to contact the people who know the most about it. All I know is what the building tells me: H.C. Frie owned it in 1889 (its made into the top of the building front). I also know that some hundred year old linoleum flooring was discovered during the renovation and will be used in Donna's upstairs studio. If you would like to know more about this historic building, please stop by and ask John or Donna, or you can email us at info@sjmainstreetgallery.com.

We wish you a safe and happy week!

Until Next Time,

The Davis & Blevins Gallery Team
